LDS Church releases updated 'Mormon and Gay' website

The LDS Church released an updated Mormon and Gay website on Tuesday, Oct. The website is meant to be a resource for gay LDS members and their families. ()

The LDS Church released an updatedMormon and Gaywebsite last Tuesday as a resource for members in and out of the LGBTQ community.

Mormon and Gay is an updated version of the website Mormons and Gays, originally released in

'The new appellation, Mormon and Gay, reflects the reality that a person doesn't need to choose between these two identities — one can, in fact, be gay and live faithful to the teachings of Christ,' the churchnews releasesays.

New features of the website contain personal narratives from families, friends and church leaders of those with same-sex attraction. There are also portions of the website with frequently asked questions, explanations of how to understand sexual orientation, tips for families and advice for those dealing with depressive and suicidal thoughts.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints acknowledges that same-sex attraction is a sensitive issue that requires kindness, compassion and understanding. Same-Sex Attraction

Same-sex attraction refers to emotional, physical, or sexual attraction to a person of the same gender. The intended meaning of gender in the family proclamation is biological sex at birth. The experience of same-sex attraction is not the same for everyone. Some people may feel exclusively attracted to the same gender, while others may feel attracted to both genders.

The Church distinguishes between same-sex attraction and homosexual behavior. People who experience same-sex attraction or identify as gay, lesbian, or bisexual can make and keep covenants with God and fully and worthily participate in the Church. Identifying as gay, lesbian, or bisexual or experiencing same-sex attraction is not a sin and does not prohibit one from participating in the Church, holding callings, or attending the temple.
