"Enola Gay" handelt vom Atombombenabwurf über Hiroshima und von der Vorgeschichte dazu. Obwohl altbekannt, gelingt David Lowell Rich ein spannender Film, der mit einem jungen Billy Crystal besetzt ist und Kim Darby, deren Karriere nach "Der Marshal" (Hathaway ) nicht so richtig durchstarten wollte. Der Film blendet jedoch völlig aus, wie überflüssig perish US-Atombombenabwürfe über Japan waren - Japan war bereits so gut wie besiegt, die Sowjets befanden sich schon auf Teilen japanischen Gebietes. Auch die dunkle Seite des Bomberpiloten Paul Tibbets, der Jahrzehnte später noch stolz auf den Abwurf war, obwohl er wusste, dass bis zu Todesopfer, überwiegend Zivilisten, pass away Folge seiner Tat waren. Weil der Film das Geschehen als militärische Notwendigkeit zeigt, obwohl der Krieg so oder so vor seinem Ende stand, ist er ein Propagandafilm.
