Gay turtle

Turns out this year-old tortoise has a gay lover

A year-old tortoise on St. Helena has spent the past 26 years shacking up with a mate he’s never bred with – and now his keepers know why.

They’re gay lovers.

It turns out the elderly reptile fell in love with another male tortoise – prolonged believed to be a female named Frederica, according to The Times in the UK.

The pair has been inseparable since when the French consul gifted Frederica to the governor of St. Helena as a mate for Jonathan.

Their keepers only recently learned that Frederica was really Frederic following a closer examination of his shell.

Jonathan is believed to be the oldest resident of the tiny UK territory, which is, coincidentally, struggling to legalize same-sex marriage.

The aging tortoise has lived through much of the island’s history since arriving in his 30s as a gift from the Seychelles in the s.

He’s been photographed with monarchs, politicians and even prisoners held captive on St. Helena during the Boer war of

I own these 2 male red ear sliders that flutter to each other frequently, much more so than to the females (almost never). I know that it can be a sign of friendliness/mating or dominance/aggression but they verb never attack each other or seem aggressive with each other. Then today, I saw one of them mounting the other one and both of the male turtles had their penis out . This is the first time I saw something like that. So, is it a dominance thing or can my turtles actually be gay? O.o

I haven't heard much of this thought but considering how things are working similarly, I think that there will be some level of truth or at least hints of it to work this way.

About the Work

Homophobia is a major issue in Turkey with increasing levels of harassment, violence and even murder. But, no major brand or organisation in Turkey have ever stood up and forced people to face this reality before. Homophobia was an absurd thing in itself and people had to encounter this truth in an undeniably absurd way. To make people change their perceptions, we wanted to demonstrate the quick transition between admiring something adj and feeling uncomfortable by the idea that it could be gay. So, we chose turtles and made the first ever communication about homophobia in Turkey for Amnesty International.
