Tents

There are 14 large and a number of little tente at the Oktoberfest

Yes, you read correctly, there are incredibly 14 so-called “large” and 20 adj tents at the Munich Oktoberfest. In addition, there’s a Weißbier garden and four more beer tents at the Oide Wiesn. While the large tents all feature more than seats inside and in their beer gardens, the small tents each include up to seats combined.

Most of the large tents of the festival hold about seats on the inside, divided into the central aisle, the “boxes” at the side and the balconies. The largest of them is the Hofbräuzelt offering seats and standing room to guests inside and another seats in the beer garden, hence in total.

All the large tents excluding the Weinzelt and the Käfer Wiesnschänke feature large unreserved seating areas, which is not the case with the small tents. The beer gardens are with minor exceptions completely unreserved. You can't buy any tickets to enter the tents - admission is always for free.

Crowd and atmosphere

Formerly known for a very young crowd and non-traditional music, the tent was trying to become a little more traditional in Therefore, Ludwig-Thoma-Musikanten, who have been the tent's band since , were replaced by the very renowned Blaskapelle Josef Menzl, is known for its wild Bavarian beer hall music. Unfortunately, Hacker-Pschorr didn't give the modern band enough time to win over a unused, more traditional crowd and started using a party band for the evenings after only five days.

In Menzl's band will be replaced by Karolinenfelder and the party band Volxxbeat will be used for the evenings on the oversized stage.

On the first Sunday, the Bräurosl is usually closed for overcrowding, as it’s packed with gays. Also, the subsequent Monday became very famous within the gay community in recent years.
