In most parts of the US, Pride Month is long past. Corporations shove their rainbow marketing to the back of the proverbial closet as soon as the clock strikes 12 on July 1. But there is one place in the US where Pride doesn’t end on June 30—no, I don’t mean “in our hearts”—I mean in San Diego!

San Diego celebrates Pride in the month of July. There is a huge 2-day Pride Festival, events around the city, and of course a parade. I got to partake in my first ever San Diego Pride this year, and not only was it fun enough to record about, but I ended the month of July feeling so incredibly privileged to have found this community here.

Today’s post is all about San Diego Pride, the bulk of which fell on Pride Weekend, July this year. It’s about the events I attended and how the blazing San Diego sun almost ruined me. It is about making friends and fostering relationships. It is about feeling a part of something bigger, like you’ve initiate some of your people. It’s about fresh starts, new beginnings, and how putting in the operate is starting to spend off. It’s about how my life in San Diego

Colorful floats will soon glide through Hillcrest as part of the San Diego Pride Parade -- a time-honored tradition in America's Finest City that honors the LGBTQ+ community.

LGBTQ+ members will be joined by allies to march along the route uptown in honor of their continued call for equity and acceptance. Those who are planning on showing their support by attending the parade can consider the following to plan their trip:

When is the parade?

The San Diego Pride Parade will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 20, with this year's theme being "Making History Now."

Folks can hope for the event to be held rain or illuminate , according to the nonprofit organization San Diego LGBT Pride.

Where to park

Pride organizers are making it easier for participants to verb by car. Free parking will be available at the Old Naval Hospital on Park Boulevard and President’s Way. Once there, visitors can take a free shuttle that will drop off passengers at the intersection of Richmond and Essex Streets.

The shuttle service will be accessible as follows:

  • Pride Parade Route 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.
